Watch: Jelly Roll hosts Jimmy Kimmel Live, chokeslams his WWE opponent Logan Paul
Jelly Roll's first of two nights on the job as a guest host of ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live, was treated to an unexpected interruption. When his World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) SummerSlam match tag team partner, Randy Orton, and their opponents, Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul, appeared, a newsworthy moment occurred. The brief fracas on Wednesday evening's late-night program ended with the Grammy-winning "Save Me" performer chokeslamming Paul through his TV hosting desk. The incident also served to hype WWE's SummerSlam event, which will take place on Aug. 2 and 3 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. What has transpired in Jelly Roll's recent WWE interactions McIntyre initially made an impromptu appearance from a side stage door. He celebrated Jelly Roll's over 200-pound weight loss in the past year. Then, after referring to him as "trailer trash," among many lowbrow insults, Orton and McIntyre engaged in a scuffle involving stiff forearm shivers. Orton was then tackled by Scotsman McIntyre back through the same door through which he had entered. Jelly Roll, stunned, said that the show was going to take a commercial break. He was interrupted by social media influencer-turned-grappler Paul. Before slapping him across his face, among many insults he lobbed at the country chart-topping performer included calling him a "greasy, redneck, prison rat." Stunned by the assault, Jelly Roll then recomposed himself and retaliated with a chokeslam before hyping his appearance at SummerSlam. This follows a weekend of appearances by Jelly Roll that resulted in a series of tussles between Jelly Roll, Orton, Paul, and McIntryre during the July 11 USA Network-aired SmackDown episode, recorded at downtown Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, and NBC's July 12 Main Event program, recorded at Atlanta's State Farm Arena. On Friday evening, Jelly Roll appeared during a segment of SmackDown, where his performance of "Liar" was interrupted by Paul. Orton appeared to back up Jelly Roll, which then prompted an appearance by McIntyre. One day later, McIntyre (seconded by Paul) and Orton (seconded by Jelly Roll) wrestled during the Main Event show. As expected, things got heated again. Jelly Roll punched Paul in the melee. Then, McIntyre delivered his jumping front kick "Claymore" maneuver to Jelly Roll. How has Jelly Roll's schedule grown between pro wrestling, television, on-stage performances "Truthfully, there are three things I'm always mistaken for — a wrestler, a tattoo artist, or a member of the Insane Clown Posse who just got sober," joked the performer during his first-ever hosting monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday evening. Jelly Roll said that his return to the late-night program followed comedian Kimmel being the first late-night TV show to offer him a skit and a couch appearance on late-night TV. He's not long for the host's chair, though. The coming weekend finds him making a Sunday evening appearance at the North Dakota State Fair in Minot, North Dakota. The "Son of a Sinner" vocalist returns to that stage after his first appearance in 2023. Luke Bryan, Limp Bizkit, Bailey Zimmerman, and more are scheduled to join him. During a Wednesday morning appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Jelly Roll said that over the past year, he'd joked with the former WWE champion and current WWE chief content officer, Paul "Triple H " Levesque, about his weight loss and if it qualified him to be in-ring ready. He's finally ready. "I have been training. I have quietly been living in Orlando for three or four weeks at the PC [WWE Performance Center], showing up every day like a piece of furniture. They can't keep me out of there. I'm there from the moment I wake up until it closes. I'm obsessed," Jelly Roll said to McAfee, who himself is an on-again, off-again WWE in-ring performer and television color commentator. The Nashville-born performer explained that he has been working in three- to four-hour training sessions with retired WWE wrestler-turned-coach Matt Bloom, as well as former WWE champions like The Undertaker and Kevin Owens, and recent former WWE United States Champion Jacob Fatu. "These dudes are like pouring into me because they see that I'm trying to take it as serious as I can," Jelly Roll added.
